Are Your Videos Costing You Sales?

I’m sick of videos…
Video is a tremendous tool for demonstrating software products or for certain other situations. However in my humble opinion using it in place of traditional email marketing is becoming counter productive. I get about 50 to 60 emails a day and there was a time only a few months ago when I could quickly scan through those emails and discard the ones I wasn’t interested in and save the rest maybe 5 or 10 for the weekend when I had time to take a closer look. But now it seems like almost every other email is just a short note with a link to a video. I don’t have time to watch all these videos!!! I’m trying to run a business too.
I suspect that I’m not the only one who feels this way. In fact more often than not the emails asking me to watch a video are the ones that I’m most likely to ignore.
You may have a great video promoting a great product that I may be genuinely interested in buying but chances are your not going to make the sale because I just don’t have the time to watch your video and then watch the next guys video and then the next guys video.
If you want to market using video here is some advice… Use it sparingly and keep it short. If not more than likely your message is going to wind up in my digital trash bin without ever having been watched.
If I feel this way I’m sure there are many others who do as well. Using video may actually be costing you sales.
Just something to think about the next time you want to send me a video.
